Every pregnant woman has questions about birth. But the answers are not always easy to find. Now women can find the answers they are looking for in a new publication from the Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services (AIMS).
This new and completely revised booklet is one of AIMS' most popular titles and is also the most comprehensive looks at being in labour and giving birth ever compiled. It answers many common questions which women ask (and a few they are afraid to ask). For instance:
How will I know when I am in labour? What happens during labour? What does it feel like to give birth? What's the best way to cope with labour pains? Can I speed labour up without drugs? If I use drugs what are the possible side effects? Can I have a normal birth? How do hospitals manage labour? What sorts of things can go wrong during labour? Will I need an episiotomy?
In particular this book is essential reading for any woman wishing to have a normal birth - that is birth without unnecessary interventions. It is fully referenced and explains in depth why interventions are used, when they are indicated - and when they are not - and effective ways of avoiding them.
