AIMS Campaigns
AIMS has campaigned in the past for:
- Fathers to be admitted to the labour wards.
- Ending routine procedures such as pubic shaving and enemas.
- Women's right of access to their case notes & records.
- A randomised controlled trial of CVS - Chorionic Villus Sampling.
- Major reductions in the routine episiotomy.
AIMS continues to campaign for:
- A greater understanding of normal birth.
- Recognition of childbirth as a normal physiological process.
- Parents' decisions concerning their own and their baby’s care to be respected.
- For all women to be able to engage an independent midwife through the NHS when a home birth midwife is not provided by the NHS.
- The right for a women to choose the positions she prefers for labour and for giving birth.
- Safe and adequate provision for home birth by all NHS Trusts.
- Reductions in the routine use of labour interventions, such as induction and electronic fetal monitoring.
- An end to routine ultrasound examination - the safety and efficacy of which have not been properly evaluated.
- Reduction in the over-use of drugs in labour.
- Reduction in caesarean operation rates to less than 10%.
- Public right of access to maternity unit statistical data.
- More evaluation before widespread introduction of technologies and interventions.
- Ethical reseach in maternity care.
