This latest publication from AIMS is different from other books on women's choices during pregnancy. Written by Sara Wickham, it outlines the principles of making birth choices, rather than focusing on giving alternative options to maternity care. It raises many issues that women might want to consider when thinking about the decisions they have to make, including informed choice, coercion, and sources of information.
This booklet helps women to explore their own feelings, beliefs, and desires in relation to various options, and to base their choices on these, rather than on the opinions of "experts".
"What's Right for Me?" also explores some of the tools that women can use when making choices. It contains practical examples on how to approach decisions, both when they have plenty of time to think through the options, and when making difficult decisions under pressure. It is essential reading for any pregnant woman negotiating her way through the maze of maternity services.
"What's Right for Me - Making decisions for pregnancy and birth" is available directly from AIMS and costs £5.50 (p&p included). To obtain a copy write to: AIMS, Mrs Shane Ridley, Manor Barn, Thurloxton, Taunton, TA2 8RH enclosing a cheque for £5.50, made payable to AIMS.
