This is an invitation to anyone who was ever born...
... to explore our understanding and learn together. It’s part of a short series of interactive discussions around how pregnancy, birth and the early days are informed by, and understood by, our culture.
What do we mean when we talk about technology in the perinatal period? What do we understand, or misunderstand, about technology? Is it good, bad, or indifferent?
In this session we’ll start by defining what we mean by technology, for example does it include both artefacts and concepts? Then go on to explore common conceptions and misconceptions held around tech in birth.
The aim is to stimulate our thinking around how the general public perceives the perinatal period, and the impact that has. Hopefully, we’ll all leave feeling enriched by lively discussion.
The session will be led by Kathryn Kelly, an experienced antenatal facilitator and former university lecturer in the Cultural Shaping of Birth and Beyond.
Kathryn is offering this session as part of exploring ideas for her own book proposal. General ideas discussed may be captured for that reason. No-one’s original work, words, or images will be used without permission or acknowledgement.
