AIMS Workshop: Wellbeing

When: 22nd July 2026
Venue: Online
Cost: Tickets cost £25 for AIMS Members and £35 for others. Student Midwives tickets for £15.

AIMS is delighted to be hosting a Wellbeing workshop delivered by Ruth Weston, veteran birth activist, AIMS volunteer and author of 'Born Stroppy Make Change Happen'. This workshop is based on the third part of her book and her training in Mindfulness and Compassion. Please use this link to book your tickets, Buy tickets

This is Ruth's explanation of the workshop

"Caring for your neighbour whilst not caring yourself is like a naked man trying to offer me their shirt."

This was the picturesque phrase I heard from an old high school graduation speech. It hit a nerve because like everyone passionate about good birth and quality maternity care I often give beyond the personal resources I have. The third part of my book, Born Stroppy reflects the rather painful journey I took.

This workshop is for volunteers and professionals who give of themselves and need some nurture and nourishment. In the workshop we will learn and use ancient but also well researched practices of kindness and compassion for ourselves. We will learn some of the research about how our minds and bodies work which will help us understand why we do what we do. And we will learn some tools for mitigating those habits so we can continue to care without becoming overwhelmed or burnt out.

This is a taster workshop so if you want to learn more there will be signposting for more in-depth courses and learning.

Please Note: Because this is an online workshop without any follow-up it needs to be said that if you are in acute distress this workshop may not be for you; something more tailored to your needs with some follow-up may be more appropriate.
